There was an increasing growth of elderly ladies in the community who were widowed and who are living alone and finding themselves in financial difficulty and not being able to maintain the homes that they were living in on their own.
Many times, the family is under strain due to the tough economic climate that we live in and cannot be at home during the day, thus leaving the elderly person alone; or is not trained to assist the elderly family member who is in need of more specialised care.
Awqaf SA jointly started the DaruShifa project in Lenasia as there was an increasing need to help the elderly who have become our forgotten generation.
The service started with home-based care, where trained caregivers assisted elderly patients to recuperate from ill health or coping with daily living needs.
